Do you have a creative project that you long to do but just can’t seem to get around to? If you do sit down to work on it, do you struggle to come up with an idea? Or if you have an idea, does it take you an inordinate amount of time to get it done? Are you afraid to commit to a project because you aren’t sure you will be able to deliver on it?
Creative blocks can be emotionally devastating, because for many people, being able to create—whether it is writing, visual arts, composing or playing music, dancing, or another creative endeavor—is a core part of their identity, a necessary expression of who they are in the world. And when that shuts down, they can feel utterly lost.
Creative blocks often appear without warning and can afflict both beginners and seasoned creatives. When the well seems empty, creatives often start questioning whether they were any good to begin with, or whether they will be able to create anything of value ever again. But creative block isn’t about talent or lack of it.
As Victoria Nelson points out in her book On Writer’s Block, creativity flows from the unconscious, and when that flow stops, it is the unconscious sending a strong message that something is wrong: “inability to write means that the unconscious self is vetoing the program demanded by the conscious ego” [emphasis in original].
Any number of things can spark this rebellion in the unconscious, and of course the triggers will be different for different people. Luckily, EFT and The Body Code are wonderfully powerful tools—and the best that I know of to deal with this issue—that can help identify and release the specific components of what is upsetting the creativity department in the unconscious mind and causing it to go on strike.
I strongly believe that each and every one of us has unique and amazing talents and gifts to be shared in the world, and that the more we can free our creativity, the better the world is for everyone. If you are having trouble tapping into your creativity, I would be honored to help you release whatever is in the way!
